/photography training > photography courses > 1-hour photography Lesson
Location: Cardiff, Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan and South Wales
Format: 1-to-1 photography training at my studio
Duration: 1 hour
Level: Beginner to advanced
Cost: £95
A practical one-to-one photography session at my Penarth studio, designed around your camera, experience and the things you want to understand better.
Whether you've just bought a new camera, want to get out of Auto mode or have one particular photography problem you'd like help with, this is an easy place to start.
This is a private one-to-one photography lesson, so there’s no fixed syllabus and no group to keep up with. Bring your own camera and we’ll concentrate on the areas that will make the biggest difference to your photography.
That might mean understanding aperture, shutter speed and ISO, getting autofocus working properly, choosing the right lens, improving composition or simply setting your camera up so it feels less complicated.
It’s also useful if you’ve been photographing for a while but feel stuck, have recently changed camera systems or want a refresher on something you’ve forgotten.
The approach is practical rather than heavily theory-based. I’ll explain something, you’ll try it, we’ll look at the results together and make adjustments as we go.
A typical session could include:
getting out of Auto mode
aperture, shutter speed and ISO
autofocus and focus areas
camera setup and useful settings
lenses and when to use them
composition
working with natural light
reviewing your own photographs
solving a specific photography problem
You don’t need any previous experience, and you don’t need expensive equipment. The session is built around the camera you already own and what you actually want to photograph.
Training normally takes place at my studio in Penarth, near Cardiff, with other locations possible where appropriate.
£95 for a one-hour private session
The one-hour session also makes a useful photography gift for someone who has recently bought a camera, wants to get out of Auto mode or simply needs a little more confidence using the equipment they already own.
Gift vouchers are available, making it an easy birthday, Christmas or special-occasion present for a budding photographer.

That depends on their experience and what they want help with. A session might cover getting out of Auto mode, exposure, autofocus, camera setup, lenses, composition or solving a specific problem. Because it’s one-to-one, the hour can be focused entirely around them.
-
No. You can buy the session without deciding the exact content in advance. The recipient can discuss their camera, experience and what they’d like to improve before the session so the training can be tailored to them.

The one-hour session works well as a standalone lesson, but they can also move on to more structured photography training afterwards. The 6 × 1-hour Beginner Photography Course is the natural next step for someone who wants to build their skills progressively.
