A different kind of catering company
Pikkle offers a more interesting take on corporate catering: fresh, vibrant food sourced from some of the best independent food businesses around.
Creative, customised and committed to supporting local communities, the brand needed photography that felt equally distinctive - this wasn’t simply about photographing the dishes. It was about capturing the people, movement and atmosphere that make the Pikkle experience different.
The brief
The Pikkle team already had a clear sense of the energy they wanted the images to convey. Their design agency supplied a strong mood board, giving us a useful creative direction while still leaving room to respond to what happened on the day.
From my side, I felt the shoot could borrow something from late-90s and early-2000s skate and streetwear lookbooks - the sort of Carhartt, Vans and WeSC references that are still littered around my studio.
That meant getting close to the action, using unusual angles and allowing the images to feel energetic rather than overly polished or staged with a loose narrative when you bring them together.
Fast, instinctive and slightly chaotic
We photographed Pikkle during a live office catering job, so there was no opportunity to stop everything and carefully manufacture each moment.
The session was fast, furious and fun. I worked around the team as they prepared and served the food, reacting to what was happening and adjusting quickly whenever things changed.
Getting up close and personal - in a friendly way and shooting on a wide lens - was essential. It allowed the photographs to capture the movement, expressions, details and moments of controlled chaos that made the event feel alive.
A clean setup alongside the action
Alongside the documentary-style photography, I built a small studio backdrop in the corner of the office.
This gave us a second visual style for cleaner, more controlled portraits and brand images without losing the personality of the wider shoot. The result was a flexible collection containing candid action, people, food, details and more composed campaign-style shots.
More than food photography
The finished images were used across Pikkle’s website, social media and advertising.
It was part food photography, part lifestyle shoot and part documentary - but primarily it was about creating a recognisable visual identity for the brand.
Pikkle’s photography needed to communicate differently, and that’s exactly what we created: colourful, energetic brand photography with plenty of personality.
