Photography & video training for businesses, teams and organisations
Practical, hands-on photography and video training built around your team, your equipment and the content you actually need to create.
I provide bespoke photography training for businesses, universities, charities, local authorities, government organisations and in-house marketing and communications teams.
Whether you've invested in a mirrorless camera nobody is completely confident using, want your team to take better photographs at events, or need more people capable of producing useful mobile photo and video content, we'll build the training around your real-world requirements.

On-site training across Cardiff, Newport, South Wales, Bristol and throughout the UK by arrangement.
Get more from the people and equipment you already have
Most organisations don't need their communications team to become professional photographers.
They need people who can confidently pick up the camera or phone and get good, usable results when it matters.
You may already have a capable mirrorless camera, smartphones, microphones or lighting equipment. The challenge is knowing how to use it consistently when the lighting is difficult, people are moving and the moment can't simply be recreated.
Training gives your team a practical approach they can use again and again.
-
Good equipment. Better results.
Understand the cameras, phones and content equipment your organisation already owns — and what you actually need to use.
-
Be ready when something happens.
Events, visits, announcements, presentations and everyday moments don't wait for a professional photographer.
-
Create a consistent approach.
Give your team a shared understanding of what to photograph, how to capture it and what a useful set of finished content looks like.
What can we cover?
Build the training around your team
There isn't a fixed syllabus you have to buy.
Photography and video training is modular, so we can concentrate on one skill or combine several areas into a half-day, full-day or multi-day programme.
-

Camera & mirrorless photography
Get your team more confident using the camera equipment you already own.
Training can cover camera setup, getting out of Auto mode, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, autofocus, eye tracking, lenses, composition, available light and working quickly in changing situations.
-

People, events & PR photography
Learn how to create stronger photographs of the things organisations actually need to document.
That can include people at work, meetings, speakers, presentations, groups, formal moments, interactions and reactions — as well as building a useful set of wide, medium, detail and contextual photographs from an event.
-

Mobile photography & video
Help more of your team create useful everyday content using their smartphones.
We can cover photography, framing, movement, interviews, B-roll, audio, lighting, vertical and horizontal formats, basic editing, captions and repeatable social content.
-

Lighting & flash
Understand how to work with difficult light rather than simply accepting it.
Training can include natural light, reflectors, on-camera flash, off-camera lighting, portable portrait setups and studio lighting fundamentals depending on the team's requirements.
-

Adobe Lightroom & editing workflow
Build a quicker and more consistent process after the photographs have been taken.
This can include selecting images, exposure and colour correction, cropping, masking, file naming, organising photographs, export settings and establishing a repeatable delivery workflow.
-

Product & content photography
For businesses that regularly photograph products, equipment, demonstrations or processes themselves.
Learn practical lighting, backgrounds, camera positioning, consistency, reflections and editing using your own products wherever possible.
Practical photography training — not hours of theory
The quickest way to improve photography isn't to spend the whole day talking about it.
Training is workshop-led and follows a simple process. This practical approach is already at the heart of the training programme: short demonstrations, immediate practice, simple checklists and fast feedback rather than lengthy classroom teaching.
-
01 — Show
I'll explain and demonstrate the technique, keeping the technical theory relevant and understandable.
-
02 — Shoot
Your team immediately puts it into practice using their own cameras, phones or equipment.
-
03 — Review
We'll look at the results together and identify the small things that make the biggest improvement.
-
04 — Repeat
Make the adjustment and try again until the process becomes something your team can confidently repeat.
Train for what actually happens at work
Real-world content. Real situations. Where possible, exercises are based around the content your organisation actually needs to create.
-

People at work
Capture staff, students, customers and colleagues naturally without every photograph feeling staged.
Training can cover camera setup, getting out of Auto mode, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, autofocus, eye tracking, lenses, composition, available light and working quickly in changing situations.
-

Events, meetings & live moments
Learn what to look for and how to build complete coverage of speakers, audiences, presentations, reactions and the wider environment.
-

Buildings & interiors
Create stronger exterior and interior photographs while dealing with perspective, windows, mixed lighting and difficult spaces.
-

Interviews & video updates
Improve framing, audio, lighting, interview technique and the supporting footage needed to turn a quick recording into useful content.
-

Products & demonstrations
Create simple, repeatable setups for products, equipment, processes and demonstrations.
-

Social & everyday content
Capture photo and video assets quickly enough to be useful for websites, LinkedIn, Instagram, internal communications and other channels.
How we build your training
You don't need to choose a course before getting in touch.
-
01 - Understand what you need
We'll establish who needs training, their current level of experience and the content they're expected to produce.
-
02 - Review your equipment
Tell me what cameras, lenses, phones, microphones, lighting and software you already have.
Where appropriate, I can also advise on gaps, upgrades - or equipment you don't need to buy.
-
03 - Build the programme
I'll recommend the right combination of subjects, timings and practical exercises around your team.
-
04 - Train using real scenarios
Where possible, we'll work with your own equipment, locations, people and typical content requirements.
-
05 - Make it repeatable
Your team leaves with a clearer approach they can continue using after the session, supported by relevant shot lists, checklists or reference material.
What could your training look like?
A few common starting points.
-

Camera photography training
For teams with a mirrorless or DSLR camera who need greater confidence using it for everyday communications.
A typical session might cover camera setup, exposure, autofocus, composition, people, events and practical shooting.
-

Photography + mobile content training
A broader programme for marketing or communications teams producing a mixture of photography, social content and short-form video.
-

Two-day photography & video programme
For teams that need more time to properly practise.
Day one: mirrorless camera photography, settings, people, events and practical shooting.
Day two: mobile photography and video, interviews, audio, B-roll and creating content for digital channels.
-

Specialist training
Focused training can also be built around Lightroom, lighting, flash, product photography, portrait photography or another specific requirement.
Less guesswork. More usable content.
The exact outcome depends on the programme, but the objective remains the same: give your team more confidence and a process they can actually use.
Training can help your team:
use mirrorless cameras and smartphones more confidently
understand the essential camera settings without relying completely on Auto
create sharper, better-exposed photographs
deal with difficult or mixed lighting
photograph people more naturally
capture complete and consistent event coverage
shoot useful interviews and short-form video
record clearer audio
capture B-roll that makes video editing easier
select and edit photographs more consistently
work from repeatable shot lists and workflows
create better everyday content in-house
Who is the training for?
Built for teams creating content in-house
Photography and video training can be tailored for:
Marketing teams
Create better photography and video for campaigns, websites and social channels.
Communications & PR teams
Be better prepared for events, announcements, visits and other moments that need immediate coverage.
Universities & education teams
Capture events, people, teaching, facilities and everyday institutional life more consistently.
Local authorities & government organisations
Build practical photography skills for communications, public engagement, events and documentation.
Charities & membership organisations
Enable staff to create stronger content when budgets or circumstances don't allow a professional photographer to attend everything.
Businesses & in-house content teams
Get more from existing camera equipment and increase your ability to create useful content internally.
Photography training at your workplace
For many organisations, on-site photography training is the best way to learn.
Instead of practising in an unrelated classroom, your team can work with the cameras they actually use, in the spaces they normally photograph and against the problems they regularly encounter.
That means we can answer very specific questions:
Which lens should we use for our events?
How should we set this camera up?
Where should somebody stand in this meeting room?
How can we improve photographs under these lights?
What's the simplest setup for interviews here?
I'm based in Penarth and provide on-site photography and video training across:
Cardiff • Penarth • Newport • Vale of Glamorgan • Rhondda Cynon Taf • Bridgend • Monmouthshire • South Wales • Bristol
Training elsewhere in the UK is available by arrangement.
Studio-based sessions can also be arranged where more specialist lighting or photography facilities are required.
Real-world experience, turned into practical training
I'm a commercial photographer and visual content producer with more than 20 years' experience creating photography, video and content for businesses, charities and organisations.
That matters because this isn't photography training based purely on theory.
The techniques I teach come from the same situations I regularly have to solve professionally: photographing people, businesses, events, workplaces, products and campaigns, working with difficult light and creating content that has a genuine communications purpose.
The aim is to take the useful parts of professional photography and video production and turn them into techniques your team can realistically use.
For larger or specialist sessions, additional trainer support can also be provided where appropriate.
Training in practice
[CASE STUDY / REAL TRAINING PHOTOGRAPHY]
Helping an in-house team get more from their camera
The challenge
The team already had access to capable mirrorless camera equipment but wanted greater confidence using it across everyday communications situations.
The training
A bespoke practical session covering their camera setup, exposure, autofocus, composition and photographing people, followed by exercises using the equipment themselves.
The result
A simpler, more repeatable approach to photography that the team could continue using once the training had finished.
[Training-specific client testimonial]
I'd eventually make this two or three actual case studies, particularly university/local-authority/comms-team examples. That's likely to be substantially stronger for this page than generic SEO copy.
Photography & video training costs
Every programme is different, depending on the number of people attending, training required and whether the session takes place at your premises or another location.
Half-day team training from £750
Equivalent to £375 per person based on two attendees. Larger group and full-day pricing available.
Bespoke programmes, multi-day training, travel and specialist studio requirements can be quoted once we've established what your team needs.
[Request a training quote]
I prefer this presentation to simply “£375 per person” because the buyer immediately understands the likely minimum organisational spend while you retain the ability to price larger groups sensibly.
